In the distance, you can hear it: the haunting song of Young-hee, the doll that spells doom for so many of Squid Game’s contestants. Though we don’t know when to expect it, a second season of Squid Game will be coming to our screens. It’s the most anticipated Korean drama of the year, according to CasinoAlpha(Opens in a new window), with over 1 million monthly searches.
The company analyzed Google searches to compile a top 10 list of which K-dramas viewers are looking forward to most in 2023. The results are good for Netflix, which has the rights to six titles on the list, including of course, Squid Game.
The horror series All of Us Are Dead is returning to Netflix for a second season. There’s no date announced yet, but its renewal was a no-brainer, since it’s a winning combination of YA and zombie apocalypse. Over 180,000 of its viewers are searching for news on it each month.
If that’s not enough apocalyptic horror for K-drama fans, Sweet Home was renewed for two more seasons, with the second season set to premiere at the end of the year. It can’t come soon enough for the over 60,000 who search each month to check in on the return of Cha Hyun-Su, who lost his entire family in a car accident and has to deal with other humans turning into bloodthirsty monsters, with the residents of his apartment building as his only allies.
The show Hellbound came out in 2021, but its fictional universe extends from 2022 to 2027. In the actual year 2023, we’ll find out more about why people are being sent straight to hell by terrifying supernatural beings.
