(Yicai Global) Feb. 28 — China has set a goal to build over 600,000 fifth-generation base stations this year, a spokesperson at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology told Yicai Global.
China will rump up the coverage of 5G networks for business areas, industrial parks, high-speed trains, transport hubs, shopping centers, and other crowded places, Tian Yulong said to Yicai Global at a press conference today.
The number of 5G base stations in the country has exceeded 1.42 million so far.
China shall heavily promote the innovative development of 5G applications and further advance the demonstration of ‘5G + industrial internet’ application scenarios, Tian added.
The trials of ‘5G + medical health’ and ‘5G + smart education’ shall be also conducted, with sustained penetration and expansion into the agriculture, culture, and tourism areas, he said, noting that a series of new smart terminals and apps shall be launched to improve the users’ 5G experience.
Moreover, we shall promote the iterative upgrading and research and development of 5G technologies, increase the R&D of core chips and devices, enrich 5G application products, meet the market demand for 5G differentiation, customization, and personalization, and speed up the development of 5G technologies through large-scale applications, Tian added.
