MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Eleven William Blount High School seniors have found their calling in Career Technical Education or CTE.
These students signed with various East Tennessee companies on Thursday morning to start paid internships, part-time and full-time jobs after graduation. It was the first ever “CTE signing day” for the school though students have joined companies after high school in years past.
Senior Addison Goforth will join Avero, which is an information technologies advisor for businesses in Blount County and nationwide.
“It makes me feel very excited. And it makes me feel I know what I’m doing and I’m excited to be doing it,” said Goforth.
She will begin a fulltime career post-graduation.
Senior Molly Marantos will begin a paid summer internship with Denso working at their help desk in the IT department.
“I’m getting real world experience. This is not something you can get in class,” said Marantos.
After her summer internship she plans to go to Pellissippi State to get her Associate’s Degree.
It was in Miri Blair’s computer science classes where Addison and Molly found their passions.
“Real exciting to see them. Both of them being females in technology is even more exciting for me to see them out there,” explained Blair, “And seeing our employers embrace that. Seeing them get that hands on experience and know for sure that this is a field that they want to pursue.”
Abhijit Verekar was excited to see his company, Avero, welcome Addison at the signing day.
“It’s just fascinating to me how good the quality of students are that come to us and we are happy to take on more next year,” said Verekar.
Companies students signed with include: Royal Metal Powders, Boatmate, Massey Electric, Viper Customs, MBI Companies, Dollywood, Avero and Denso.
