- A $2.5 million state program will give about 500 unemployed Iron Range workers temporary jobs by July 19. But others in Northeastern Minnesota may not know about jobs until later today, after a meeting between Gov. Al Quie and legislative leaders.
- The St. Louis County Board yesterday voted down a motion that would have upgraded and simplified pay classes for 420 county clerks. The plan, which was to take effect July 11, would give clerks an automatic promotion after three years of service.

- The first Duluth concert set up for radio broadcast will be held tonight in the Kelley-Duluth hardware store. Duluthians who have no radio receiving sets in their homes can hear the concert broadcast on loudspeaker in front of the Kelley-Duluth store.
- The first American Legion pageant to be held on the Iron Range is scheduled for August 8 and 9 in the Hibbing city baseball park. A large stage will be erected in the park, and the pageant will depict the early days on the Iron Range.
